![]() Spring 2014 is about transformative clothes. The statements are simple: Try a longer skirt, one that hits midcalf or the upper ankle. Feel the power of flowers, whether they’re rendered as South American embroideries or giant South Pacific hibiscus. Take cues from your favorite gallery and wear something artful. This season, there is fashion for every personality. |
Runway Accessories
![]() For the last several seasons, the clothes have been loud, while the accessories played a quiet, buy-now-wear-forever sort of supporting role. So imagine our delight this season when accent pieces—be it a feathered bag, an oversize necklace, or serious pair of shades—were pushed brilliantly back to center stage, vying for the spotlight. |

![]() The verdict is in. Fur was in almost every show, but in a rainbow of color options. Head-to-toe sweater dressing was exactly what we wished we were wearing given the weather outside. We went mad for plaid, as it became the print to be seen in. And, which hue will we don? Let’s just say the looks will make you green with envy. |

Runway Trends
![]() The fall collections were dominated by a sense of energy and immediacy that speaks to the high-speed mobility of the digital age. All the functional outerwear and sporty footwear that we had come to rely on were elevated in a myriad of stylish ways—this is fashion that’s made to walk off the runway and right onto the street. Why not trade your biker jacket for shearling, and your lace-up oxford shoes for a polished white sneaker? Take your pick from the galleries of instantly gratifying new clothes coming out next season. The time for fashion that’s real and exciting is now. |
Runway Accessories
![]() Fall 2014 was all about the novel accessory. From unexpected fur trims to eye-popping floral necklines to the seductive power of a single, mesmerizing piece of jewelry, these were the offerings that took front and center over the once-ubiquitous handbag. In a season of limitless look-changers, such a range of options may leave you wondering what to choose, but the brilliant part? You don’t have to pick just one. |

Fall 2014 RTW
Runway Trends
![]() Refreshingly down-to-earth or absolutely out of this world, the new collections had it both ways. Fall found designers warming up to fleecy shearling and cozy knits. Normcore was born. But there were also searing color combinations and optic prints out of an Ibiza rave. Other ideas on the runways included modern takes on sixties silhouettes and evocatively sheer evening gowns. Here, Fall’s most noteworthy trends. |
![]() Every once in a while, fashion serves up a season that shifts our thinking. Instead of prints, designers went pink. The Pre-Fall collections communicated that fashion is moving in an easier, more relaxed direction. Suits were cut on the slouchy side and soft sweaters were teamed with dressy skirts for evening. Other trends (both new and familiar) included cropped culottes, mixed plaids, color-blocking, and, last but not least, skirts with slits. |
Runway Accessories
![]() Normcore may have been the talk of the shows, but accessory designers weren’t having it – See Chanel’s furry logo bag and Dior’s trainer-soled heels. Here, all of the season’s best extras. |
